Of all the exhibits at our Museum, none appeals to a wider range of visitors than Mount Vernon’s own hometown star, Paul Lynde. Children know him as the voice of “Templeton, The Rat,” in the animated Charlotte’s Web movie, and as Elizabeth Montgomery’s “Uncle Arthur” on Nickelodeon’s reruns of Bewitched.
Older visitors recall Bye, Bye, Birdie, Send Me No Flowers, and many other movie comedies, as well as the long-running original daytime and evening editions of Hollywood Squares, and Paul’s countless guest appearances with Ed Sullivan, Perry Como and other television shows of the 1960’s.
From his birth here in Mount Vernon in 1926 through high school graduation in the Class of ‘44, Paul called Mount Vernon his home. He was very active in high school theatrical productions before going on to Northwestern University, where he received his more formal dramatic training.
