November 4: A Salute to Knox County’s Military Veterans

Honoring Mr. Donald Jakeway

Each year in November we recognize the service of our military veterans from Knox County
who have served from the earliest days of the Revolutionary War to the present time.
This year we will be honoring Mr. Donald Jakeway, who served as a paratrooper in World War II and was at Normandy on D-Day, June the 6th, 1944. We will hear of his experiences in service during the War and share stories from his excellent book. Mr. Jakeway was given special honor at this year's Knox Co. D-Day Celebration.

November 2 "Norman Rockwell’s Salute to America’s Veterans” presented by James K. Gibson

It has been just 100 years since Norman Rockwell provided his first cover for The Saturday Evening Post on May 20, 1916. In the years since then, many of his 323 Post covers have paid tribute to American military forces as well as scenes portraying sacrifices and support on the home front.

Our traditional November tribute to Knox County's veterans will include a slide show and special exhibit of many of Rockwell's best loved works.
